Maybe this could help to use the built-in HP NC107i Integrated PCI Express Gigabit Server Adapter with Windows Server 2012 R2:

http://h20566.www2.h...ette.cachetoken

An maybe that the firmware update could help too: http://h20566.www2.h...ette.cachetoken

HP released both of the above on 10. of September.

Thanks a lot!

several days ago , just after the windows 2012 r2 std rtm released,

i downloaded the iso and get ready to upgrate the 2012 to 2012R2 std.

This progress always stop at "get ready device 84%",

according to this post,

Win2012R2 does not recognize the NC107i which is no problem with Win2012(without R2)

After I upgrate the NC107i firmware and the new drivers,

it succeeded to upgrate to R2 std !!!

But logging to the desktop ,  the Local Area Connection does not work ,

it always shows "Cable was uprooted",

Hi guys been a while. Just bought a new Microserver: PROLIANT MICROSERVER TURION, 2.22GB 250GB NHPL SATA LFF IN, Manu. Part#: 704941−421, and needless to say went to install Server 2012 R2 Essentials, and I've hit the same problem as everyone else - had to disable the onboard NIC to get it loaded.

Not a good situation when this is going to replace an old home built machine (backing up the family PCs) which is failing.

So it looks like I need to buy a third party NIC that will work. I've read that the Startech ST1000SPEXD2 will work but looks to be very expensive and in short supply. So the question is - can anyone recommend a NIC that will work, that is install in the machine, work with Essentials, and does not cost the earth?

Fingers crossed in advance.

I chose this one : http://www.amazon.fr...s/dp/B001OQSZQ0 which is directly recognized by WSE2012R2 (no need to update or install anything, but I install the latest driver anyway ^^).

Did you try this : http://homeserversho...d-network-card/ ?

Apparently, it works for N54L but not for N40L.

Cheers guys, so those cards (using the UK site) are:

Now it may be me but looking at both cards the photographs make them look like they are full height cards, will they definitely fit the Microservers half height slots? (Yes being paranoid here).

I've not tried that work around, but I'll give it a go later on - nothing to lose after all.

In my bundle, there are two size of bracket (??? I don't know the word in english :s). You just need a screwdriver to exchange them ^^. I think in the intel bundle too.

Before you buy something, a friend of mine get success in installing WS2012E R2 with the embedded NIC on N54L. He installed the OS with NIC disabled. At reboot, he enabled the NIC and boot in safe mode. He updated the driver manually (extract the archive and update from the devices panel).Take a look at http://homeserversho...d-network-card/

Thanks for that confirmation over the bracket, I thought there may be two different sized brackets but wanted to make sure :)

I've just finished trying the Safemode hack and alas no go I get similar results to the others that the server will now boot but it reports the network cable is unplugged.

Time to order the card I guess :(

I think is time to wait for the public release of windows server 2012 r2 and broadcom/HP to release updated drivers.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but this exact issue also affects Windows 8.1 Preview on the N40L.

I can disable the onboard nic and get it to install, then re-enable and boot into safe mode. At that point I can update the driver

to the latest HP driver for 2012, but like others have said it thinks the cable is unplugged.

Well the TP-LINK Gigabit PCI Express Network Adapter: TG-3468 (TG-3468) arrived today, and only a full height bracket supplied. Not happy. So it looks like I'll either chase them to see if an alternate bracket is available or cut the supplied bracket down.

Wishing I'd never bought this bloody server now as every aspect of the build is turning into a nightmare!
