I mentioned it on the show last week but now it is official. I will be in the Kansas City Microsoft Store, Saturday afternoon, December 1st. I have two presentations to do on Windows 8 and SkyDrive. One at Noon and the other at 3pm. Also going to podcast live from the store at 5pm and working on some interviews with the store manager. If you are in the area and can join me, let me know here. We will do a mini meetup early or late depending on who can show up. Maybe I can even get Microsoft to come up with a few giveaways?

I would like to gauge interest in a 2012 meetup. I envision it to be on a Saturday in mid October and located somewhere in the Indianapolis Indiana area. Please let me know in a reply if you:

RSVP no matter what the date.
      Tentative
      Can't make it this year.

This will help me decide on a location and what vendor support I'll need. Hit me with questions if you have them. Thanks!

UPDATED: The 2nd Annual Meetup will be held on October, 20th, in a location TBD. 95% sure it will be the North Indianapolis area. Page 2 of this post is where RSVPs start. Pleast RSVP if you know you will attend. Thank you!

They picked a date.....it's planned for September 21, 2013 somewhere in the Indianapolis area.

Now we are looking to you the listeners and participants for help.  What vendors / companies would you like to see represented at the meet-up?

Post in this thread with your ideas or comments.  More info to follow so stay tuned!

Would be nice if MS would donate a copy of WSE2012.

Expecting you to make it this year Ikon!

Maybe WD could donate a couple of Red Drives to give away.  Same for Seagate.

Would love to but, believe it or not, in September in my family there are 3 birthdays, 2 funeral anniversaries, and a wedding anniversary to observe. No, they're not all on the same day :)

Well since this community seems to own 50% of the Micro servers ever made, Perhaps HP might like to front up.

I am going to make plans to be there. Sounds exciting! I like Dave's plans to make it even bigger than last year.  While this might not be the normal home server stuff, I am interested in audio equiptment such as Dave used at CES and other podcasting stuff.  How about a Audio-Technica ATR2100 give away?

I just wanted to add that when you list down a vendor that you would like to see represented at the meet-up, what specifically are you interested in learning about?

I realize some of the suggestions (including mine) are about hardware that could be given away to attendees.  But we also have to keep in mind that part of the reason for the meet-up is to allow people to get their hands on some new hardware and learn something new.

With that in mind....my comment on the hard drives was so we had drives to put into all these other boxes that people want to see on demo.  (That is my story anyways).

Stablebit and Drivebender

I would like to see demos for each product. I like to see how product works during hard drive failure.

OK, here's a wish list of mine -- it may be a little ambitious :)

Anything (or everything) from the last 4 or more Icy Dock Icy Tips -- the most recent April has some nice/interesting stuff/HW....... I'm particularly interested in stuff that could adapt one or more 5.25" drive bays to multiple uses

HP Servers and MicroServers -- Not just G7's but the ML's G8 -- that could only be to HP's and our advantage to see/touch/run the hardware (Maybe Dell or other Small business Server Provider would like to come over and Demo their products too?)

High Resolution Monitors and at least one projector that could be demo'd and used during the meet-up

An assortment of Wireless AC routers -- and then maybe 1 or more could be set up to provide our own internet within the "Hotel Cesspool" internet where-ever we're at -- it would be cool to see them in action and be actually using them during the meetup.

RAID Cards -- including demos on how they work

Gigabyte Haswell System Boards -- this is an enthusiest crowd -- we should be their target market

Surface RT and Surface Pro as well as other Tablets -- demos on how to fit them into our home infrastructure (Maybe MicroSoft could just POP over from their Store in Indy)

Media equipment (I'd love to see VF's equipment like what he brought at the 1st meetup :) )

Linux systems/servers -- need to learn more and see how it integrates into what we want to do in the home -- I have Ubuntu and Ubuntu Server running in Hyper-V but really don't know anything about them so would like to learn more

S2012E & WHS2011 -- would like to see more HW solutions/platforms for both (something we can run and take apart)

Something about setting up Domains in the Home and achieving high WAF

Hyper-V and ESXi -- how to get them up and running and how to best use them

Integrating Apple/iOS into this mess (Apple's store is very near MicroSoft's -- maybe they could carpool over :) )

I think it should become a weeklong event that is sponsored by all the big dogs so I can make it a work trip and expense it.
