I have started to setup my N40L using Microsoft Server 2012 Essentals and setup Plex. I am running into a issue of viewing my movies. I get a error cannot load m3u8 404 not found". I did not research on the web and setup port forward on my router to 32400 which not resolve the issue. I did notice some information on the web about Plex transcoding with a dual core 2 processor or better. I am curious if other people ran into the same issue and to confirm the issue is the result of a incompatible processor.

OK, I did alittle troubleshooting and discovered it is the processor that is the issue but the format I backup my DVDs. I am using DVDFab 8.2.2.6 and made a full disc backup using the default settings. This made a VIDEO_TS folder and a AUDIO_TS folder.

What settings should I use to back up my DVDs when using DVDFab 8.2.2.6 which will allow me to play the videos on my Plex server?

    Thanks for any assistance.

Personally I gave up on Plex. Too fussy about video formats. I could get it to work with some mkv or mp4. Some movies play ok after converting and others don't. Also I didn't want to take the time to convert all of my movie collection that was already ripped to video_ts and audio_ts folders.
I can't recommend it. There are just too many other ways to go that will read and play anything including the kitchen sink to get involved with Plex.
With all that said, go ahead use DVD Fab to rip them to MKV or MP4 with a few movies and see how it works for you.
Let us know. Maybe there has been some changes that make it more reliable. I last tried it about six month ago. I can't remember if I used DVD Fab or not, but I did try a lot of other software.

I recall you trying Plex. You worked pretty hard on it. Sometimes these things just don't work out. :(

I have been using plex for about 6 weeks now and with recent updates it has been great. They are iterating this thing so much that if it has been more that a few weeks, you should try again. Also know that some of the updates are not automatic and you may have to download and manually install it. They have finally addressed most of the streaming issues with Windows 8/RT. The catch as with most of the streaming software is containers. It will not do well unless you have an MKV or MP4 or other single file containers. I now use it on a VM an stream to my surface, laptop, and IOS devices. What I do is when I rip a BD or DVD, I have MyMovies set to make an MP4 copy automatically in a different share. I point plex to that share and end of story.

Same reason I quit Plex, it won't play my DVD folder rips. You can try PleXBMC
if you want to. I gave up and use a jailbroken AppleTV2 which plays my folder
rips perfectly courtesy of FireCore's ATV Flash.

Ok, further troubleshooting and input from my post has helped me resolve the issue. I converted a back up move to .MKV and it works from the Plex server. I am not waiting for a update to Plex server to run as a service. I have read a lot of post on Plex's web site from other people who are looking for the same update.

    Thanks for everyone's input.

I don't do any streaming myself, but I'm still glad to hear you found an answer. Thanks for posting it here for others to read.

Sorry to revive the thread, but I wanted to see what sort of interest there is in a utility that runs Plex as a service.

I have been doing some side programming and basically created a wrapper that will run Plex as a service. Only issue is you lose being able to click on the icon in the notification area.

Let me know and I would be glad to put it up in Github as well as build release binaries.
