You just knew it had to happen.

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.

how to geek also featured this, but i like seeing all the shiny tiles, but I can also watch a progress bar and be entranced. i've heard a possible intro video for windows 8 and think it would be a great idea as hot corners and the charms bar aren't easily discoverable. supposedly the new win8 keyboards will have special keys too, i guess for the charms?

Yes, the new Microsoft keyboards will have a dedicated key for the Charms bar, but for the rest of us, the Windows key + C is the shortcut combo to use...

And Microsoft doesn't want you to go straight to the desktop:

Well, I tried it and cannot report success or failure. I have two monitors on the Win 8 machine and one goes to the "desktop" and one goes to Metro just as it did before.

Long Live Windows 7!!

Actually, mine is configured, somehow, to have one monitor bring up the desktop and one goes to the "Metro" interface. BTW, I read yesterday where someone is going to sue over the use of the name "Metro".

Well, you knew THAT had to happen to0. MS could have named it *()&(_*^&$R*()#&*()$&*)%U#()U()# and somebody would sue - just a money grab, or at least an attempt.

Dual monitor via remote desktop isn't quite as bad -- I'm wondering if when their short term upgrad offer is available that we could get upgrade keys for all our machines and then wait till SP1 to actually install them. Probably something wrong with my idea (or maybe it's the 3 glasses of wine).

Wouldn't it be hilarious if SpinRite could get around the Metro desktop issue? OK, as impossible as that is, I would not put it past Steve to figure out a way to get around Metro and create a tiny, free utility to do it for us - he puts out a lot of free stuff.

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.
