The internet is all abuzz about Microsoft's announcement. Microsoft Surface.

Seems there is MUCH to talk about here. So what do you think? In for one once it hits the shelves? Scared of what the pricing may be? Concerned about MS alienating it's hardware vendors?

Definitely interested in the Pro version with the Type keyboard cover.

Worried about the price? You bet! Hopefully less that $1000, but I wouldn't bet on it.

This is a very interesting device. MS may have a real winner on their hands with this one, especially in the corporate world.

I'm wondering if we'll be forced to get a data plan, or will be allowed to buy one without.

I have not seen any mention of 3g/4g connectivity. Tethering should be possible I presume. The Pro version (with keyboard) is really closer to an ultrabook spec and according to Balmer will be priced accordingly; so it wont be cheap. MS are clearly looking to improve productivity appeal of the tablet form factor with both versions. I doubt if you had they keyboard cover that you would ever take it off to leave the house. Hardware looks impressive but battery life is unknown and I am concerned that the perimeter cooling slit would attract moisture (coffee, beer etc) all too easily.
Of course the jury is still out on W8 too. But I guess if W8 does not work great on a tablet then there is little hope for the OS on anything else!!
I am still waiting for the "must have" feature of W8 that would give me reason to upgrade and relearn Windows.
Finally, apps maketh the phone and tablet these days and MS has a lot of ground to make up in that department.
My two cents worth. That is all.

Sign me up for the Pro. I'll take one with 3G/4G. I wonder what AT&T's data plan rates will be?

I am Very Interested in the Pro model.
Seeing it running Lightroom 4 , was very impressive!
For me personally , WiFi will be just fine. I really don't want another Data plan.
Very excited to see more on the Media integration. Music Video ....Media Center?
I better start saving my pennies now!
Sinofsky said the Pro would be priced comparable to the best Ultrabooks.
I am hoping that means $1000.00 or Less. After all its only a 10.6 inch screen

I've been waiting for this for the past 8 months. I think it may fulfill my desire for Origami Computing. Use it as a tablet on the move or around the house, use it as a Desktop, plugged into a full size monitor in the study.

It would be even more interesting if that Mini DisplayPort turned out to be a Thunderbolt port, but I suspect that will be next year's Surface model.

I think it will depend on the price. If it costs too much it will be hard for me to justify adding it to the collection of other devices in my household.

Depending on the price and battery life, I would be interested in the PRO to replace my Iconia tablet and my laptop.

Being able to do tablet stuff and still use it to write code would be great, but it'll need to at least match my laptops 8 hours of batter life and have enough horse power to drive a Kinect sensor.

My current laptop is so old that I think I can finance one of these when the Pro versions come out, unless someone else comes out with something even better.

Anyone think about doing an RT tablet and if you need a 'full-pc' experience, connecting by remote desktop to your main machine? I think the RT price, presumably better battery life and portability will be a draw for me. Also, as more and more metro apps come out, I think I'll be using the desktop less and less.

However, I've just realized that I would have to upgrade my Desktop PC to Windows 8 Pro, rather than the lower-cost option of Windows 8. Still, it may be worth doing, since that might be offset by the lower cost of the Windows RT Surface over the Intel-based device. The other route would be to sell the Desktop PC and replace it with the Intel-based Surface for Origami Computing.

I await further details on availability and pricing from Microsoft with interest.

The most surprising thing to me was just how significant the announcement was. I think most people were highly skeptical that MS would announcement anything truly interesting. You could feel it in the mood of the crowd. It went from, "OK, it's a tablet.... whipeeee..... yawn" to, "Oh, now that IS interesting" to, "Holy $#$#, I want one". I think this has done more to raise interest in MS than anything since the Kinect.

I will stick eith the pro and take advantage of software I own and will own. I would prefer to buy one version of each. I also want to use for more than consumption. Maybe we even see Metro apps that actually have features.

That's actually a very interesting idea. With the Staples promotion running thru Nov if you happened to buy a new computer thru Staples between now and then (this is geared towards business customers) they will refund you the price of the Win 8 upgrade when it came out plus provide a form of Tech support (don't know how good it would be but better than nothing).

So...... If you were going to buy a new computer anyway this could be pretty interesting.......

Food for thought........................
