Good day,
I have a HP EX495 that works great.
I just rebuilt one of my PC’s that I run as a headless box for dedicated applications.
Locally I DPR into it to do all of the work on the unit. Prior to the rebuild, I was able to access it remotely thru the Home Server. Now I am unable to access it via the Home Server. It shows as “Available for connection” on the remote access to computers tab. I select to connect, I get the Connection Options dialog box. After about 30 seconds I get an error message note “Cannot connect to your home computer”

I can see getting this message if I didn’t have remote access enabled on the box, but it is enabled and I can RDP into it locally.
I am able to connect to my other boxes remotely thru the EX495, just not this one that was just rebuilt.

Does anyone have any thought on how to resolve this issue?

The box is running Windows 7 Professional.

Did you remove the "old" computer from WHS and then add the "new" one back in?

The issue was you see an "alias" for the actual SID (System ID) of the system. The hostname may have been the same but when you reinstalled the OS, a new SID was generated and WHS did not know what to talk to.

The only potential down side is that I had to blow away the backups from the old box. The box has been rebuilt so the loss of the backups is not an issue.

Good catch.

This proves you are a HSS Master. and WHSv1 to boot.

I did read some where a long time ago that you can change the SID back to the old one so that it will continue to use the old backups, but it's wasn't easy.

That issue would have happened on 2011 also.
