It's been a while since I've used WSUS, and there is a way to clean-up the database and free up disk space. At least on older versions, it was a separate download. You'll also want to look at a few areas to try to keep your downloads to a minimum:
Language (most are fine with English only)
Windows versions (pick what you have, and don't download updates for what you don't. Hopefully it's just Windows 7)
Apps (Office, etc. same thing on the versions)
Drivers
I may install it myself just to see how its changed in the past couple of years...
