I'm seeing some internet traffic that suggests that users stay away from EARX drives for WHS2011 for now. There seems to be issues when files are read from the drive.

So until things get confirmed, I suggest you stay away from buying those new drives for now.

Have you heard anything related to this, please post a link.

Thanks.

John.

Where are you seeing this? I have had one for 6+ months and no issues. Can link to the specifics as I would like to know. I could possibly try to recreated the issue. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in the same boat as pcdoc and Joe_Miner. I've got a 2TB EARX living in the 4th bay of my HP EX487 and I haven't had a lick of trouble out of it. The drive is BitLocker encrypted and participating in a Drive Bender pool. I imagine if there were any kinds of problems reading from the HDD I would be getting all kinds of errors, both from BitLocker and Drive Bender. There may be an edge or corner case, or maybe somebody got their hands on a bad batch of drives. If anybody is going to present a corner case with drive configurations, it would be me. So far it would seem I'm the only one on the Internet with WHS 2011 and has encrypted all of his drives.

Did we come to a conclusion on the EARX issue? The reason I ask is I saw a deal at Newegg.com.

$114.99 with code EMCNGHC44 Limit is one though so maybe we should use this as an external drive just to be safe? Or a backup drive in the server.

I read that the Windows Home Server Team was looking into errors using these drives with WHS2011. That could take months ( the way they work) to confirm they are good, so just keep that in mind.

A quick note to add that I have been using 3x 2TB EARX drives in my Microserver since October 2011 and they haven't missed a beat.

Two are acting as a mirrored pair (using Windows Server mirroring) and the third is a standalone drive for server backups.

I'll post back if I find any issues.

OK, Microsoft's WHS team is taking to long to confirm this so I'll close the post.
