On all my VM's under Settings>Display>Video>Extended Features.....I only have the ability to check the "enable 3D Acceleration". The "enable 2D video Acceleration" option is unchecked and greyed out.

Does anyone know how to fix this or if this normal?

I have tried allocating more video memory to the VM, and just recently updated my video card drivers (Nvidia GeForce GT 240). It seems weird to me that 3D acceleration is possible but not 2D.

Thanks,

if 3d is enabled then 2d is enable as well, which is why its grayed out.

Hah! That makes sense, sorta.

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.

Ah ok. I thought that might be the case, but i'm glad it's confirmed. Thanks for taking the time to clarify that for me. :) Now if I could just figure out how to get guest-addin's installed for windows8 (posted separately) for that problem.

Thanks again!
