Actually now that you mention it. That cable sucked. LOL. I wasn't able to easily disconnect it. Eventually, I just gave it a firm tug straight up after removing that clip on it. and it came out. I was worried I broke something though... but all was well

I had no problems because I spoke nice to it.

I might try non-ecc (i know that works from other forum posts). it's only $104 from newegg for a cheap 2x8 dual channel kit. it that works then I'd grab the ECC equivelant for the second server. if it doesn't, i can always use it in a hyper-v install on desktop hardware.
I wanted to play with the P2V using a hyper-v guest to vmware anyway...wow, I'm really talking myself into this, better be careful.

I was thinking specifically of WHS. It doesn't have an 8GB limit either?
Main Server - WHS 2011, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5 (5x3T) + 2T of Mirror + 2T of backup
Second Server - 2008R2, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5
Main Systems - Core I7-2600k, 16 Gigs DDR3-1600, 180 Gig Intel 330 SSD Max IOPS 240 Gig Vertex 3, 2T Sata 3 for local Backup
Other systems - Core I7-2600, Core I3-530's, Core I5-2500, Core I7-920, Core I3-2100, and G620 (see System List)

The RAM I used is 2x Samsung 8GB ECC unbuffered DDR3 UDIMM 1333MHz (CL9).
The ram was genuine Samsung re-branded as Super Talent.

Evening all, from an N40L-owning Brit, this is a bit of a bump but when I saw this thread I was reminded of something I saw earlier in the month over on the unraid forum.
A user over there JohnM reported that he'd got 16gb working and recognised under Server 2008r2 SP1.
Specifically, these are the DIMMs:
I'm on 8gb, I'm half-tempted to give 16gb a try, as RAM is fairly cheap at the moment.

I believe I can also report success with the Patriot model listed, using Windows Vista (for now...). I am using the modded bios and I actually had to play around with that some. I had been running with only the single 2GB stick that the microserver was shipped with, and this weekend I switched over to the 2x8GB Patriot Gamer2 PGD316G1333ELK. Oddly, initially both BIOS and OS were reporting only one of the sticks- 8192 MB. On a whim, I set parity checking to 'enabled' and the box recognized both sticks. Then I set parity checking back to 'auto' since it wouldn't make sense to use parity checking with this memory, and both sticks were still recognized in both BIOS and OS. I am really not sure if this was just a coincidence, seems like it would be... I will probably look into this more, but I can't until the weekend.
