Loaded Server 2008 R2 Enterprise onto my N40L Microserver.

Haven't set up a role's yet -- just finished 40 Windows updates and loaded Microsoft Forefront Enpoint Protection 2010 via the instructions at http://technet.micro...y/ff823774.aspx

Scans completed and up to date. Need to check for more windows updates.

Running with 8GB of RAM and OS drive is a Crucial M4 128GB SSD. Haven't set up a VHD drive, Snapshot drive, or Data drives (yet)!

Will post pictures and more details this weekend.

YeeeeeHawwwwwwwwwwwwwwww let the fun begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, before the wine -- here's my SSD's performance as the OS drive -- it is attached to Port 4 and the Crucial M4 128GB is in the space between the 4bay drive rack and the space for the Optical Drive (or future 3.5 drive :) )

Not bad IMHO for being hooked into a SATA 2 (3GB) port.

Everything loads fast and the updates are fast -- loving it!

Between the upper bay (the Optical Drive Bay) and the 4 drive Bay -- i.e. behing the HP Logo Light in a space that would be perfect for a Floppy drive (except for the light)...

I used a new space age mounting system -- i.e. electrical tape. Seems to be holding.

I can highly recommend the 3M VHB tape products for securely holding: http://www.uline.ca/...eReloadCookie=Y. If you properly clean the surfaces with Windex and alcohol before adhering, this stuff will stick unbelievably.

You might be able to find much smaller rolls of it at Home Depot. Unfortunately, Home Depot often stocks a different VHB tape that's grey in colour. I find it doesn't hold as well as this transparent one. Also, don't necessarily be thrown off by the cost. After you start using it you most likely will find all kinds of uses you never would have considered before.

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.

Yes, The box quality is impressive IMHO.

And with Diehard's guide on flashing the BIOS -- that was quite easy to do! (thanks again Diehard!)

I was also impressed how easy it was to load Server 2008 R2. Very smooth and trouble free. Amazing!

Duct tape is the universal must have -- I remember watching video from Apollo 17 while they were using Duct Tape to repair their Lunar Rover live on TV on the Moon. Gotta love it. :)

The difference between the Stock Segate drive that came with the MicroServer and the SSD is clear. The SSD is far superior.

I ran into a small issue when I installed 2008R2 on my microserver and thought I would share it. When I first attempted to install 2008R2 on my microserver I was getting an error that the install could not find a system drive. It was weird because I could see the drive and even format it but it wouldn't continue the install process... after googling the error I found that some people had problems installing 2008R2 with a USB stick plugged in. I unplugged my USB stick and rebooted... No problems installing after that :). Hope this helps someone!

Were you installing from the stick or from a DVD?
