After comteplating for a few weeks on whether to build or buy a new home server, I decide to go the buy route and get a HP Proliant ML110 G6 server. After checking out the specs I believe this is the best choice for me as I won't be doing any RAID(for now). The main purpose is for backups and serving media around the house and to the PS3.

What do you guys think, is this a good decisions for what I'll be doing?

Also, what drives would you look to go with? I'm interested in 2TB drives? WD, Seagate, other????

Whatever brand you decide on, stick with it Everyone makes good and bad products. The server should work fine as long as it fits your needs for expandability. Sometimes, the OEM's cut costs with power supplies so beware of that one. It may run for a hundred years with no issues.

The one thing that is most valuable for me in a homebuilt is video out.
When things went wrong with my OS drive it was great to be able
to attach a monitor to the MB and see where things were going wrong.
In my case the faulty OS drive.

I hear that! My Acer H340 was a pain when it hiccuped and I couldn't see what was happening.
