A couple of weeks ago my ex490’s sys drive developed a fault that prevented the server from booting. I didn’t have any luck with a recovery so I popped in a new drive for sys and stared rebuilding. During the process of moving files from the old data drives to newly created shares I found that I wasn’t satisfied with the file move function in Windows Explorer. Nor did I want to use xcopy, which would cause me to waist time coping duplicate files.

So I wrote a command line Move app that will move files from one location to another, create the directory structure and only move files that are not already in the target location.

Does anyone want me to put this tool under downloads?

just wondering, why not just use RoboCopy, RoboCopyGUI, or RichCopy?

I didn't realize that I could use robocopy on V1. Just didn't think about it.

Plus it only took me a couple hours to write my program.

I use RoboCopy on my v1 to backup my data to an external eSATA enclosure every night.

RoboCopy is very useful in that the file permissions remain intact. If RoboCopy seems a bit overwhelming, you can also look a RichCopy.

RoboCopy can seem complicated but, in reality, you mostly only need 1 or 2 command lines, and not many parameters on them either. The benefit is it's so robust. If it says it copied the file successfully, then you know it was.

FYI: TeraCopy is a good GUI-based copy program as well. I use it in my work environment to copy data from server to server.
