I needed to swap out an SSD in a Windows 7 64 bit client system today and I have to say if someone asks you “Why Windows Home Server 2011", just say "Restore Restore Restore", because that is about how long it takes. The USB Client Restore Key required no drivers and the whole process took less then 15 minutes!

Let me ask a very newbe question how do you create the Reastore USB client key?
I just started my testing and have just put my basic server together after the first one failed before I could do my testing. I was just about to try a restore this weekend.
I was also looking for that post that talked about connecting a drive direct to the server and performing the local restore and then moving it into my pc.

Well I thnk I found what you used
if you go to your computers and backup
highlight the computer you want to restore
select Additional client computer backup task I see on this one a tab with tools and it shows Computer Recover

i'm guessing this is what you used?

Let us know as I will try this for sure

Exactly how I made the key; just used the "Additional client computer backup task" wizard. My USB key is a Patriot XT which speeds up the initial USB boot process and I set the key aside so it will be there should I ever require it. Knowing how the process works and what I should expect should a drive ever fail is a great relief.

I can say from previous experience that the WHS 2011 client restore was faster and easier that WHS Version 1. Score for WHS 2011!

I still need to get familiar the server restore which is apparently done with the installation ISO. This can be done with a DVD or an 8GB USB key which I used to install WHS2011. I will let you know if it presents any issues.

Yes, I'd like to know what you found that works (and especially how you did it :) )
