HI,
I just setup my new WHS 2011 with no issues and everything is working great. The only problem I am having now is the Mymovies 4 Add-in. For some reason I cannot connect my client to the server. I have them both in the same workgroup and the firewall is off on both PC's. I gave my WHS 2011 a static IP thinking that my be the problem. I can connect to my WHS 2011 dashboard from my HTCP, but I just cannot get MyMovies 4 to work. Has anyone had this problem or can you tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks,

When you installed MyMovies on your client PC, you did install it in "client" mode, didn't you?

Also on the client go into mm collections and under options I believe you can enter server name and password. Just a thought.

Server:

Had that problem initially and had to use the "Name" to resolve it. For some reason the IP address did not work. As the others stated, client mode for the HTPC.

Main Server - WHS 2011, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5 (5x3T) + 2T of Mirror + 2T of backup
Second Server - 2008R2, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5
Main Systems - Core I7-2600k, 16 Gigs DDR3-1600, 180 Gig Intel 330 SSD Max IOPS 240 Gig Vertex 3, 2T Sata 3 for local Backup

I have tried the ip address and the name of my server still no luck. I have uninstalled my movies on whs and the client version on my HTPC. I still have the same issues after a fresh install. I do not know what else to do. Here is what I have I installed my movies for windows home server 2011 version 2.00 to my whs box. I then installed the client version 4.00 build 2 on my HTPC box. Did I do this part right? Did I leave something out? Any ideas would be great. Thanks

I too had some connection issues. For a short time I mounted the MyMovies folder as a network drive and pointed WMC at it.
That worked for a while, but not consistently. For whatever reason, the last uninstall and reinstall of the HTPC client solved my problem.

It sounds like you installed the correct programs. I would also post to the MyMovies forums if you haven't already?

I had the oppostite problem, would not accept name had to use the ip address, as soon as i did that i've had no problems since.
Try restarting the server, as sometimes the mymovies service does'nt start correctl and a restart can sort that out.

I have always connected via the IP address. I made the server a static address as well to ensure it wouldn't change

Is anyone having problems using the libraries for the database locations? Also those who cannot connect, make sure the database is in a folder that the PC you are connecting with has access.

Main Server - WHS 2011, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5 (5x3T) + 2T of Mirror + 2T of backup
Second Server - 2008R2, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5

OK,
I fixed my issue. I had to create a user on both my HTPC and WHS 2011 with the same name and password. After this everything connected right up. I used the server name to connect.

I don't think I have seen this mentioned in any thread, but for applications such as this, you may want to consider creating what we call a "Service Account". Said account would be used for any thir party appilcation that needs to run on both the client and server but would not need access to personal folders and the like.

Just a thought.

Good suggestion. I used to that on my media streaming boxes such as the popcorn when I had them. I automatically create the same user on the server to match the client with same password.

Main Server - WHS 2011, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5 (5x3T) + 2T of Mirror + 2T of backup
Second Server - 2008R2, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5

Well...as long as the MAC address or server doesn't change. Since I'm using a VM for my WHS2011 it creates a new virtual NIC whenever you rebuild the server (admittedly this should be rarely, if ever.) Or if you add a new NIC, or build a new server. Understand these are rare situations, but since all my attached clients were configured to use the server's name instead of IP, they picked right back up without me having to update anything.

Set a Static MAC address as well.

why would the MAC address matter? If you have the IP it should work, should it not?

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.

Because a router assigned IP is based off of a MAC address of the NIC. So if the MAC changes...a new IP is assigned.

hmmm, could be my bad, not sure. I was assuming the MM server (WHS2011) has a static IP. I simply have no understanding for using any kind of DHCP for servers, routers, or printers. To me, using DHCP, even reserved, is asking for problems exactly like these. Guess I'm just old school (well, I'm old, that's for sure).

BTW, when I said "if you have the IP" what I meant is "if you have the correct IP for the WHS2011 server".

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.
