Wel, in some cases you are right but the ICY DOCK "MB455SPF-B 5 in 3 SATA Internal Raid Backplane"-case has no chipset inside - just the ports - so hardware conflicts are unlikely

In addition, according to the compability information from Icydock, there are no known incompatibilities between this case and RocketRAID cards

Yep, I just looked up the IcyDock station and you are correct. Still might be worth moving it to a different controller and see what happens.

Main Server - WHS 2011, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5 (5x3T) + 2T of Mirror + 2T of backup
Second Server - 2008R2, Core I5-2500, 12T RAID 5
Main Systems - Core I7-2600k, 16 Gigs DDR3-1600, 180 Gig Intel 330 SSD Max IOPS 240 Gig Vertex 3, 2T Sata 3 for local Backup
Other systems - Core I7-2600, Core I3-530's, Core I5-2500, Core I7-920, Core I3-2100, and G620 (see System List)

Eventally - if all other options fail., still having some things to try, I will have to move the disks of this controller alternatively try to run it with SuperMicro enclosures

Put the card in another box and burn the original firmware?

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.

Boot into safe mode and uninstall the driver. Reboot and make sure it come up correctly (without the raid). Then download the latest driver from their site and re-install the driver.

@doc: Safe mode also crashes in a similar way
however raid card bios utility sees disks and eport them as configured
also - noted that the windows driver for the raid controller (the very one Iupdated) is missing in the system directory, but i can not reinstal it from system recovery (have tried both through system recovery and cut and paste between folders and disks
Beginning to ear a complete re-installation...

so you can't copy the file to the disk by mounting the disk on another system as a data drive?

the thing is that the OS drive is raided - raid 1- on the card (worked flawlessly until now
Would it be possible to extract it on of teh OS disks. copy the file and reinsert?

I thought you could do that with a RAID1. Basically, pull 1 drive, break the mirror, so the drive operates as a standalone, copy the file, reboot. After it's working, reconnect 2nd drive and let it rebuild. Haven't done this in a long time (years & years) but I'm sure that's about what I did in the 90s.

If at first you don't succeed, do it like your mother told you.

As ikon stated, you can try to move the OS drive to a separate controller on the motherboard. and see if it will boot. Raid 1 should be removable. Leave the OS on the motherboard and if it boots try what I had stated earlier. Worst case do a system restore or a clean install. Unless you have tons of configurations, 2008r2 is a quick install and setup. Let us know how that works out.

Have you checked Device Manager?

Yes and ther it shows
Under Human Interface Device
  • both HID-compiant device and USB input device
Under Keyboards
  • properties->Drivers->Details: 2 drivers kbdclass.sys & kbdhid.sys
Under Mouse
  • properties->Drivers->Details: 2 drivers mouclass.sys & mouhid.sys
Now, as understand that these can sometimes cause the type of HW keyboard/mouse failiure
But how correct these? As they are drivers in Sys32, i guess they also have a registry enntry that needs to be fixed as well...

I shoud add that there are no errors in device management or multiple devicesa under keyboard adn mouse headings

I'm glad you included the bit about no errors; that's pretty much what I was going for - is Device Manager 'clean'? The way you describe it, it sounds like Windows is deliberately disabling USB access, as if it's an issue of rights or permissions.

Ok- General update on the RAID array issue

First - against all odds, HoghPoint has really been helpful and have now manage to re-create my error:

I created array throgh the Web manager and it built ok.
I then rebooted
1. In BIOS all 3TB drives showed up a "Legacy"
2. In computer Storage manager 2 of the 3TB disk shows up as uninitialized
3. in web manager the same two shows up as Legacy while the remaining 3TB HDDs are noted as uninitialized
.

And are working on a solution that they will try to get to me before the weekend.

Also, as highpoint only could confirm compability with Segate and Hitachi HDD and to eliminate this possibility, I switched out my WD Green 3TBs for Sgate ST-series 3TBs.

As soon as I get the solution sugestion and have been avle to try it - i will post an update
