When it comes to ESX, it's best to stick with their compatability guide. That being said, you don't always HAVE to if it's your stuff.

Maybe that answers the non-question posted question, No-Control? My hint was the "onboard NIC > not recognized", but your guess is as good as mine. Maybe this is to run Homeserver on top of ESX?
