So I have listened to show for quite some time but never decided to join forums until this thread. just wanted to tell everyone about a couple of great scripts I use to transcode my blu-ray movies. They are all found at the link below. I find these indespensible, as I love handbrake, but hate that I have to manually load everything in to it's queue.

1. Rip movie using MakeMKV and save to a home server folder. This rips all titles to an mkv format. App is free and I haven't run in to a disc it cannot read yet.

2. This folder is watched by 'WatchFolder for Handbrake'. I have this folder setup to transcode anything I drop in here (mkv, m2ts, ISO, mp4 etc). I auto-transcode to an iPhone4 640p mp4 file. This way I can watch on my iPhone or stream them to my Apple TV2 or Xoom. The 960x640 quality is still solid enough for me to watch on my 50' and 60' TVs and I don't have to create multiple files for mobile and home theater. Metadata is still wonky but I don't mind editing that later.

3. I use iTunes to stream or airplay to my Apple TV, on my HDTVs but also so that I can use DoubleTwist to stream to my Android devices.

Works well, I usually spend just a few minutes at my PC loading the disc and starting the MakeMKV rip then let it do it's thing until I am ready to edit metadata and be done.

AnyDVD-HD for liberating movie from plastic disc into folder structure.

ClownBD + mkmerge for BD
MakeMKV for DVD.

I keep HD audio tracks and video untouched & bitstream the HD audio to a Denon 3310 AVR.

Depending on the movie:

Most movies and all kids movies I'll remux to .mkv (hit play and it plays w MPC-HC + ffdshow + madVR as external player inside of MediaBrowser)
Some BD I'll keep the menus + extras and strip out the trailers & FBI warning and play w TMT5 launched as external player inside MediaBrowser.

I use iTunes to manage my podcats, music and movies. I occasionally buy TV series from the iTunes store (most older animation like Scooby Doo, etc.) but for the most part I create my own from DVDs I purchase from Amazon. If I have some free time to setup the rip, I will transcode animation using CloneDVD at 2000Kbits and "real" movies using DVDFAB at 4000kbits. If I do not have an abundance of time, or am creating "throw away" copies of things, I will use AnyDVD HD to rip the VOB files to my Mediasmart Server (EX485) and let them transcode over night. Either way, I create both a mobile and a full screen version and import them into iTunes. Nothing in BLU-RAY yet either...

I four Apple Tvs that are in disparate locations throughout the house. Sometimes the wireless signal is less than reliable from my DIR-655, so I bought Actiontec MI424-WR routers and use the COAX in house to create a MOCA network. I have never had a video hiccup after doing so. Throughput is phenomenal (about 80-85 megabits/sec) so syncing up video to the Apple TV hard drives is a non-issue as well.

I also have iPod docks in both vehicle and use an iPod classic to stream movies for the yunguns when we go out and about.

I have the Actiontec MOCA devices and like yours, have no problems with SD, but they choke within 5 seconds on HD. HD isn't watchable.

I have been trying AnyDVD but for the most part I rip with the MacDell using MacTheRipper for free then Handbrake to convert to into an iPad compatible format.

How do you play the MKVs back? I am asking becouse as we all know WMC dont play well with MKVs

Hmm, I'll have to check out the Actiontec products. I currently have a MOCA network in my house for 2 DVRs from TWC. Can't remember the model, but the STB are made by Samsung. Works great but interesting that there are MOCA consumer products out there already.

I would use AutoGK to convert the VOBs from the folder structure into AVIs. Converting only the VOBs with the main movie/show in it. Kind of a long process which for kid shows mostly..

I'm thinking about re-ripping my DVDs and use MakeMKV to make MKVs instead of AVIs. I started to play with MakeMKV with my ripped ISOs. Works good but I noticed there is some interlacing on the MKVs it creates :-( Now if I use MakeMKV with the original DVD, no interlacing..Its not doing this to all of my previous ripped ISOs, just some of them. Have to do more testing... But if anyone has any ideas why this is happening, let me know please.

I like the one-click with MakeMKV...Then all i have to do is rename the MKV to the correct title and delete the unwanted crap.

As far BDs, haven't gotten there yet...Still dont have a single player in my house...sad isn't it?

I have been playing around with this ripping stuff for seems like forever, I have tried MakeMKV and its real easy to use but then you have the trouble of what will play the MKVs. I like the MKVs because I wanted to have two audio tracks included for compatibility, I wanted one AC3 5.2 and AAC 2channell but I think I am causing my self more trouble then its worth. For me I think I will stay with mp4 h.264 with AAC Audio.

Please everyone lets keep this thread going, This is a confusing topic.

I totally forgot that usually TV shows are filmed interlace. My WDTV Live played them with no problems. VLC showed the interlacing until I checked the option to de-interlace. Easier this way then encoding everything so its de-interlace. Post-processing is great :-)

You could do this with Anydvd or Dvdfab Passkey combined with Nero recode.

I'm using Dvdfab ( the full program ) and Nero, but it's a 2 part process.

Nero Recode always gave me A/V sync issues.
