Hi guys,

I haven't yet had a chance to play with the Vail beta (I've been waiting for a RC), but could someone describe briefly for me how disk management works? I'm talking specifically about managing the volumes within the operating system. (I understand that the underlying storage is different and incompatible with WHSv1, that's not the level of detail that I'm looking for.)

Basically what I'm trying to decide is how difficult it would be to add or remove storage disks to a Vail setup and whether that'd be worth the effort of going to Vail or sticking with WHSv1.

I have no problem running out and picking up a few more large disks for the initial install if I do go the Vail route, but I just want to make sure that I'll be able to expand beyond that at some point in the future. It doesn't have to be as convenient as with Drive Extender, but I'd like to know it's at least possible to do without a complete reformat.

(Drobo or networked (ie, unraid, iSCSI etc) storage is not an option, I'm talking about DAS-drives on the server itself.)

With the removal of DE, no one really knows what the final product will be in terms of specifics of disk management.
