Microsoft Security Essentials Notifier is a WHS addin that temporarily notifies you on your PC that something is going on with your Security Essentials app running on WHS.

You heard the podcast, so try it out and post your feedback here. Remember this is a simple and easy way of following your MSE notifications.

What else would you like to see it do[b].

Here is a site to test on your server with fake virus http://www.rexswain.com/eicar.html

Works as advertised. Displayed a pop-up notification on my desktop when MSE caught the eicar test virus, and it provided a more detailed notification in the Network Health tab. Very nice, Christian.

What else would I like to see? How about the full-blown addin where you can review logs, quarantines, and initiate a scan of any type? I don't ask for much, eh?

Suppose i have to install MSE to test this..

I'm still bit iffy about installing officially unsupported AV-software on my production server. Gives me the shakes up my spine to even think about that :D

You can get the Microsoft Security Essentials from the Connect site. You have to create an account. Here is the link. https://connect.micr...aspx?SiteID=861 for some, it does not appear. If your having issues getting the download, PM me and I will find you an alternative link.

Missed the live broadcast, might have been #50. Listened to podcast 109, what a great show.
Had Microsoft Security Essentials installed on my EX475 and worked just fine, but removed it because of the notification problem.
Thanks to Cristian and John have re-installed security essentials along with the new add-in from Cristian, works great!
Downloaded the eicar virus test file and now have notification on the connector.

Thanks guys.

Can someone please verify that it is safe to utilize MSE on the WHS V2 Server itself? Considering the fact that the warning about MSE is still posted on the Connect web site, I have some hesitation to employ MSE until I know it won't corrupt my data. Thanks for any reliable info that someone can provide. TheBeagle

Last I heard, MSE is not officially supported for WHS. If you want to try it out, make sure you have your server backup scheme in place. Since you're apparently already putting faith in a beta OS to safeguard your important data, running the unsupported MSE isn't much of a stretch, is it? Good luck.

For anyone having trouble with getting the download appear, please try these steps:

Please go directly to the MS connect homepage: http://connect.microsoft.com/

Click on the “Directory link” towards the top right hand side of the page.
If it appears for you in the list, then you will be able to download it. Otherwise please do not hesitate to send me an email using the Contact forum on the Maplegrove Partners site where we can help you get a copy up and running quickly or send me a PM :D

Thanks,
Chris
