That build is really cool! If you could load windows 7 embedded on it and set it up with just the media center components of the software, you might have a viable product on your hands if you can keep the COGS (cost of good sold) down.

Very cool! I think I'll look for an old TIVO for my own project, thanks for sharing!

This is a compelling story. Now I know how a moth feels, just before flying into the flame. I like it, in particular:

1. WAF "spousal acceptance issue"
2. reuse of expensive trash (Goodwill probably has suitable box for $3)
3. mounting for 2 cheap/large 3.5" HDD's
4. a burglar would never touch this "old" thing
5. the "Bob the Builder" challenge & feeling of accomplishment
6. safe place to store movies the kids watch 15 times each
 (or wife's exercise videos)
7. access to NetFlix/Hulu/etc

A couple of questions:

- could someone let us know where to get a cheap 8" extension cord for the wireless "N" antenna cable?

- where are you getting power for the HDD?

BTW, Great article, good luck selling the TiVO board #B^)

I still have the hard drive and boards to this Tivo Series 1 if anyone wants to name a price! $10, $5 ?
I bought the Tivo when it first came out. I compared it to ReplayTV for the longest time and finally went with Tivo. It worked well for me. I probably would have sold it by now if it had a lifetime subscription but I paid monthly.
