Just a correction: the Navigation app on the Nexus 7 uses its GPS chip and doesn't require any connection to mobile telephone networks (it would indeed be strange to include the app on a non-3G device if it did). The app prompts you to switch on GPS when you open it from Maps.
Thanks for the feedback, I will try that. I did not see it on the first round when I tried but I will try again today.
