This device is very confusing as described, and I suspect that it is actually a 1TB capacity drive with two mirrored 1TB drives for redundancy. So it has 2TB of drive space, but only 1TB of available storage.
In order to provide 2TB of mirrored storage, it would have to have 4TB of drive space.
Let's look at the case size: it fits two physical drives. And the biggest commercially available drives today are 1.5TB, which does not add up to the 4TB necessary for 2TB of mirrored storage.
Another clue is the price. 1TB drives are going for about $85. Put two 1TB drives in a case ($170), add the price of the case ($20) and we end up with the $190 that they are asking for this device.
These two drives in one case devices have been available for a long time in lower sizes. The published size is normally the sum of both drives, striped as RAID 0, which is THE WORST configuration that you can have for data storage. The failure of one physical drive means the loss of data on both drives, since even individual files are broken up between both drives. RAID-0 should only be used when speed is more important than data integrity.
The point is that I think that this is a 1TB drive if you are going to use it mirrored as described.
